Clinic Assistant/Patient Service Representative

The Center for Family Health currently has a position open for a Clinic Assistant / Patient Service Representative at our Hillsdale location.  This is a full-time, non-exempt position that requires experience and/or education as a Medical Assistant.  Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment are necessary for success in this position.

 

Position Summary:

Assists providers with patient care as directed including routine and point of care testing

 Greets and registers patient at time of check in and finalizes office visit at check out. Accepting charges submitted by providers for processing patient payments.

All Clinic Assistant/Patient Service Representatives are assigned to a Patient Care Team that is committed to "Comprehensive Team-Based Care" to meet the needs of our patients and our community. Each Patient Care Team includes providers, medical assistants, triage nurses, referral specialists, patient care coordinators, patient service reps, social workers and dieticians.

 

The team based approach is a whole person care approach that engages the patient in their health care and requires all team members to be effective and supportive communicators.  A high degree of integration and collaboration is required to meet the varying and changing needs of our patients.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares patients for examinations and treatments by completing medical history, and other required forms; collect and record patient vital signs and POCT.
  • Sets up rooms with necessary equipment and supplies as appropriate for procedures; explains processes to patients, provides relevant materials to patients as appropriate.
  • Carries out provider orders at time of provider visit or in follow up. This may include injections, breathing treatment, EKG, weight check and blood pressure monitoring in accordance with CFH policy and guidelines.
  • Processes prescriptions per providers order.
  • Conducts and follows up on lab tests as directed by provider
  • Explains tests and testing procedures to patients.
  • Assists providers during procedures and chaperones as needed.
  • Ensures all specimens are properly labeled; reviews test results, completes related paperwork and assures results are available to providers and documented in patient record.
  • Cleans and sterilizes lab test equipment and instruments.
  • Keeps exam rooms cleaned and fully stocked.
  • Greets patients in warm welcoming professional manner, utilizing excellent customer service skills at all times.
  • Verifies and enters all demographic information into practice management system.
  • Verifies insurance coverage on all available electronic verification systems and enters insurance information into practice management system, including scanning all insurance cards.
  • Distributes forms to patients with necessary explanation, collects forms upon completion by patient.
  • Reviews patient charges at time of check-out to ensure basic billing protocols have been met.
  • Accepts and processes charges submitted by providers and other clinical staff.
  • Accepts and processes all payments (both current and previous balance due) and balances all payments collected daily to ensure all money is accounted for and prepares a summary report from the practice management system.
  • Maintains cash box during each shift to ensure all cash-box money is accounted for.
  • Schedules patient appointments.
  • Other activities that assist with coordination of patient care, i.e. verbally review patient instructions, orders, referrals, treatment plan estimate, and prior authorizations as well as necessary follow-up to complete these requests.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work practices and instructions.

 

Non-Essential Functions

  •  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education/Training/Experience

  • MA or CMA preferred.
  • Previous medical assistant experience required.
  • Routine testing/training on various job related skills and competencies.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively with clinical staff and patients.
