Health Information Management Support Specialist

Position Summary:

Under supervision of the Health Information Manager, the HIM Support Specialist provides oversight and assistance to Electronic Health Record (EHR) users.  This includes development training and support to providers and staff to ensure documentation best practices.  The HIM Support Specialist will also provide skilled and competent coverage for all job descriptions with in the Health Information Department. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and training of the EHR.
  • Research and resolve health record problems/errors, both paper and electronic.
  • Identify workflow and application opportunities for improvement within the EHR system.
  • Identify and share established documentation best practices and lead as a resource for standardized documentation.
  • Assist in ensuring that the health records functions are in compliance with standards of documentation and format.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all essential duties and responsibilities of HIM Representatives.
  • Provide documentation guidance to providers, staff and managers to ensure quality and confidentiality compliance. 
  • Assist with monitoring and reporting of compliance of data entered by all EHR users.
  • Extraction and standardization of appropriate documentation pertaining to the requirements of Meaningful Use, PQRS, Patient Centered Medical Home, and other Quality and Pay for Performance incentive programs and initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to improve patient experience and documentation of patient care.

 

Non-Essential Functions: 

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Training/Experience

  • Associates Degree in related field or equivalent experience in an ambulatory/outpatient setting that utilities an electronic health records system.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology. 
  • Basic knowledge of Principles of Confidentiality and Release of Information Guidelines. Experience with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance and oversight.
  • Basic knowledge of PC terminology, including Windows based environment including Microsoft Office.
  • Information Technologies or Electronic Health Record experience.  Nextgen preferred.

  • Demonstrates understanding and appreciation for diversity for CFH patients and CFH employees.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
