Referral Specialist

The following position is currently open at the Center for Family Health.

Title: Referral Specialist
Department: Support Services
Supervisor: Medical Office Manager
FLSA Status: Non-exempt; hourly

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Arrange referrals for CFH patients to outside specialists.
• Communicate with providers as needed to obtain input on coordination of care issues.
• Identifies providers for appropriate specialty that will accept patient's insurance coverage, arrange appointments.
• Documents and informs patient of referral prepares referral forms and transmits required information to specialists; submits referral information to insurance company.
• Obtains authorizations for patients who receive services from CFH specialty providers.
• Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work practices and instructions.

Experience: Prefer 2 years of experience working in a medical office setting.
Education: High School Diploma required.


Other Skills: Excellent customer service skills and compassion for patients required. Basic computer user skills required, with the ability to document electronically clearly and efficiently. Excellent oral communications skills required. Must be able to work well with the team and independently.

Physical Demands
Required to sit for greater than 70% of the day, and stand and be mobile at least 15% of the time. Communicating by talking / hearing occurs over two-thirds of the day, with a large amount of this occurring over the telephone. Amount of time spent lifting or exerting force is less than 15% of the time for up to 10 pounds.
