Sterile Processing Technician

The Center for Family Health currently has a position open for a Sterile Processing Technician.  This is a full-time, non-exempt hourly position.

Position Summary:

Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, functionality and inventory of instrumentation and equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collect used and contaminated equipment, instruments, and supplies for sorting and decontamination.
  • Manually clean equipment and instruments, removing waste matter prior to sterile processing.
  • Sterilize instrumentation and equipment through a series of critical steps as appropriate.
  • Examine equipment and instruments meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Distribute sterilized instrumentation and equipment to designated storage area
  • Maintain sterilization room equipment per manufacturer's instructions for use.
  • Test sterilization equipment to identify any issues or problems.  Immediately report any discrepancies to the dental supervisor and dental director.
  • Maintain records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.
  • Control the inventory of products used in the sterilization room, including checking expiration dates and notifying supervisor of the need to reorder supplies in a timely manner.
  • Implement infection control practices to ensure that patients are not exposed to infectious substances(materials?).

 

Education/Training/Experience

  • A High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification in Sterile Processing from an accredited institution.

 

 Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail, vigilance, and meticulous care on the job.
  • Good judgement and critical thinking skills.
  • Manual dexterity and the ability to handle fragile equipment.
  • The ability to work well in a team or independently.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
